Call for information
"The work in this exhibit as a whole represents the transition from what is purely representational to the addition of abstraction within the paintings.  The conflict or struggle I am working through doesn't eliminate the portayal of the human condition-something that needs to remain constant in my work.  Expression and emotion continues to be vital.  These paintings are the stepping stones to an unknown place
that I am looking forward to discovering."

"From the Forest and the Trees"

Edric Florence And Thomas J. Norulak

Opening Reception:      Friday, October 1, 2004   6pm - 9pm
Show runs thru:           Saturday, November 13, 2004

Each artist fascinated by the power of nature comes together in his unique way in this collaboration.
Edric Florence, a Bethel Park resident and experienced wood turner, is influenced by his Asian-Polynesian background and reflects this culture in his beautiful and extremely elegant works of art created from unfinished castoffs destined for firewood.  Pieces include hollow vessels, lidded containers and sleek bowls of various exotic and domestic woods - spalted maple, walnut, banksia, African blackwood, etc.   Edric sells his pieces internationally.

Thomas J. Norulak (Forest Hills), a printmaker and member of The Print Group, engages the viewer with his observations of his journeys through area forests with etchings on handmade paper which include flowers, pine needles, hair, etc, found in his travels.  His artistic process of portraying the natural world in a medium both technical and natural brings him to the "symbology" of art imitating nature imitating art.   Historical land markers are depicted quite often in his pieces.   Thomas show extensively in local and regional exhibits.

"Flight" - Jim Rettinger
  sea pods, electrical connectors, metal

Jim Rettinger, Moon Twp artist
mixed media sculptures made from found objects

Opening Reception:  Friday, August 20, 2004   6-9pm
Show runs through:   Friday, September 17, 2004

Rettinger's work is constructed from found objects, both natural and manmade.

Selected chunks of driftwood, tree branches, bones and stones are used along  with manmande discards which are at a point where nature is claiming back and  re-appropriating them in the form of rust and decay. "Junkyard and railroad  sidings are museums without confusing nametags or curators."  Hand-built  ceramics are also some of the componests of his constructions. He challenges  the viewer to find his/her own meaning of growth, aging, decay or transformation.   More images of exhibition to follow.

Sandy Kessler-Kaminsky, Michael Stephens and Pat Varriano come together for an exhibit all about metal - it's transformation and existence in our environment.

Kessler-Kaminski paints Pittsburgh's bridges in acrylic - sometimes on metal.  She is well-known in Pittsburgh for her neighborhood murals.
Stephens, from northern PA, is a self-taught silversmith who incorporates ancient stones, found objects and more recently microcircuits in his silver jewelry. His work was recently included in the Associated Artists of Pittsburgh's Annual Exhibit at The Andy Warhol Museum

Pat Varriano, a watercolorist from the South Hills, paints rusted cast-offs usually found on old farm sites in Western PA. He has been featured in Watercolor Magazine and has won numerous awards here and out of state.
