A
Pittsburgh native, Judy Mattei studied with various artists including 15
years with Philip Salvato. She exhibits locally and nationally with
paintings in private collections here and abroad and has won many awards
for her work. She teaches painting and maintains a studio in Pittsburgh.
Her preference is painting "en plein air and generally
painting from life. "I see painting as a metaphor of something large
that wants to be said. Much like a dance, the choreography of painting is
a balance of composition, rhythm, contrasts, form and color. When added to
this, the passion to bring it to life, the metaphor is explained. As such,
I am always trying to fine tune my ability to "dance" it, to say it..and
say it in a more and more poetic way."
